Top 10 Things Best Friends Can do for Each other

Having a best friend truly is a gift from heaven. Sometimes best friends are siblings, cousins, spouses…or anyone else who fits this list of what best friends do for each other. See who in your life does at least a few of these things, and who you do them for in return:

1. A friend is always there for you

You can call your friend and she will listen, no matter what time it is. You can ask for help when you’re in a pickle and she’ll do all she can to help you out. Even if there is nothing your friend can do, she will still be there to hold your hand (so to speak) and encourage you. At times all a friend needs to do is just be present. A shoulder to cry on may be all you need.

2. A friend accepts you just the way you are.

If you can’t be yourself with your friend then he is not a true friend. A real friend accepts you, warts and all. He knows your heart and loves you for being you. A true friend is not in the business of making his friend into someone they are not.

3. A friend won’t let you compromise your standards.

There is nothing quite as sad as having someone you love try to persuade you to go against what you believe. A true friend will help you be true to the standards you hold dear. She will be proud of you for staying faithful to your beliefs and will help you remain faithful in living these convictions.

4. A friend helps you become your best.

This is done by paying attention to and encouraging your friend’s good qualities. Noticing the good in others helps them be even better.

5. A friend would never ridicule you.

You would never make your friend the brunt of a joke just to get a laugh. If someone is making fun of you, a friend is there to defend you. That’s why it’s important to choose friends with good character-someone you feel good about defending, and who will stand up for you in return.

6. A friend encourages you to follow your dreams.

This means you can share your deepest desires and dreams and she will never make fun of them. She will respect what matters most to you and encourage you to do whatever it takes to reach your goal.

7. A friends prays for you.

Oh, what comfort comes when you know your friend is praying for you. When you pray for your friend it brings the both of you peace. Imploring God in behalf of a friend is a true form of friendship. It brings an inner comfort not available anywhere else.

8. A friend is someone you can have fun with.

Life should be joyful. Having fun with a friend is an important part of that joy. A concert is all the better when shared with a friend. A dinner out is even more delicious when dining with a friend and a hike up the mountain is more invigorating when accompanied by a friend. Having fun with a friend is a key element in a true friendship.

9. A friend is someone you can rejoice with and mourn with.

When something wonderful happens to you the only thing that makes it better is telling your friend about it. It’s like being blessed twice over. When sorrow strikes you it is somehow made easier to bear by pouring your grief out to a friend.

10. A friend is someone you can trust.

Trust comes as the friendship grows. It is not immediate. You know this trust would never be betrayed. Having and being this kind of friend – one who is trustworthy – is truly priceless.

Must Read! Israel Houghton & Adrienne Bailon share their Engagement Story, Fighting the Media Storm & More

Don’t you just love love?
It’s so cute how Adrienne Bailon and Israel Houghton were friends for years before they ever contemplated dating, and even then they had to be very sure before they took the plunge.
adrienne-bailon-800
In a chat with People Magazine, the couple talks about how their journey from friends to soon-to-be married happened.
Adrienne says
“When he got officially divorced and started dating again, I immediately started to set him up with my friends. He didn’t think they’d want to go out with him but I told him, ‘Don’t be silly. You have a great smile, you’re successful, you’re kind, super witty, funny and smart. Of course they’ll go out with you.’ After one of the dates, I asked my friend, ‘What do you think?’ And she was, like, ‘He’s just not my type’. I was so offended. I was like, ‘What do you mean he’s not your type? He’s got dimples! He’s got the best smile, brows of a god, his skin basically glows and he plays mad instruments. It doesn’t get any better than that!’ Her response was, ‘Why don’t you date him?!’ A while later, we were sitting in the corner together at a party and a friend of ours came up and said, ‘You guys have old love.'”
Israel adds “We both heard that, and it had impact on us. That was such a special choice of words, and I felt it was correct. I felt a connection to her that I still can’t define.”
According to Adrienne, “My friend told me, ‘You have to kiss him. You can just be friends, but you’ll know if it’s meant to be more the moment you kiss him,’ and now we’re getting married, so you can see how that kiss went.”
adrienne-bailon-2800
Talking about the media storm they had to weather so early in their relationship, Israel says, “We were in Mexico and she got the call that the paparazzi had photos of us together. It turned into a day and a half of us deleting comments and blocking people on Instagram. There were multiple times I turned to her and said, ‘You can walk away if this isn’t worth it to you.’”
They also shared their engagement story.

How to Date a Fine Boy - Caleb Somtochukwu Okereke

dreamstime_m_13250783We are fine boys; we know this already. Just as you know you look smashing when you wear a lovely dress, it is something we are aware of, something we are certain about. We are called “Fine Boys” all the time; we are called fine boys in the mall and at the store, when a market woman wants us to purchase her wares and when a cab driver wants us in his cab.
Our friends, with a certain encouragement in their voice, call us fine boys. We are boys who do not have to struggle to get girls, boys who always change their display pictures, as if we do not already own a mirror, as if we need validation from them before we know we are fine boys.
But we have learned to be civil about our attractiveness, have we not? We have learned to swallow praises with a “Thank you” because in the place where I come from, it is taboo for you to be attractive and conscious of it. You are to be unaware you are a fine boy, people are meant to tell you, like a tear on your behind on a market day, let it attract attention from others not you.
In the place I come from, you never open your mouth to say, “I am a fine boy” except it is a joke, your attractiveness is expected to be escorted by humility, by a certain unconsciousness.
Nevertheless, this does not stop us from being fine boys, Burberry shirts and red-lipped boys. We like that you look at us, that you wink at us, that you want to snuggle up in a picture with us, we like all these things. We like the things your hormones do to you too when you are with us, offhand and snappy, those hormones of yours.
They would tell you to date us regardless of the consequences, regardless of how you have to watch your man like the maid who has never used a gas cooker watches her soup frothing on it, in close snatches. Because you know if things go the wrong way tomorrow, people would ask “Who send you to date fine boy?” Fine boys are always excused of cheating; you know this and you still date us.
However, this is how to do it.
We do not like to be tied down. We are like little children that get restless when left at a spot. We are free spirited and tentative. We do not like to be owned, do not like to belong to a particular person. We belong to everybody and to nobody.
This does not imply that we do not love you. No, not at all, we really do. But our love is not the type that places a pillow over your face in the middle of the night and leaves you gasping for breath. It is not the type that hugs you too closely or calls you too often. Our love is lax, with loose edges, it does not suffocate you.
We like to be trusted. In all our unsteadiness, we like you to be steady. We want to anchor ourselves to you, fasten our shaky legs to your stable arms. We cannot –  if you are wobbly like us; vacillating, tremulous.
We do not need you to complain that we keep late nights, that your friend saw us somewhere somewhere, hands flung over the shoulders of another girl, head thrown back in laughter, that we looked like we were enjoying ourselves. Complaints upset us, they are prompts that we do not own ourselves anymore, and we do not like to not own ourselves.
We need you to close your eyes at these things, look the other way as if you have not seen us; we need you to gulp down our many sins even if they choke you. We would pat you on the back as a mother does her coughing child, press Robb into your nose. But we need you to first pretend you have not seen these things, we would take care of you, just swallow our sins.
And we love you oh! We really do. We think of you when we watch Titanic or read amazing romance titles. We think of you before we go to sleep, when we wake up and when our phone beeps with messages from you.
Nevertheless, our actions are one with us, like a novel with a sequel, we can exist without them, but we would not be complete. And so if you can live with the understanding that we are yours, but we are others too, then this relationship will work smoothly. If you can be comfortable with being the woman in the middle, but not the only woman, comfortable with seeing our phone beep with suggestive texts from beautiful ladies, then we are good to go.
We need you to understand us, because very few people do. You are the Dumbledore we run to in our Harry Potter series – the one who always has an answer for us, an excuse for our actions.
And you should know too, that we are not wowed by beauty, it is something we are familiar with, we see it when we look in the mirror, when we pose for selfies with Retrica, it sits comfortably on our skin and walks thoughtlessly with us.
But, to date a fine boy, you must be a ‘fine’ girl. Do you remember when your teacher taught you how to balance chemical equations in secondary school? That is what we are talking about here. You cannot leave one side of the equation teeming with fineness and the other side, with, well… I am sure your Mother told you this.
Nevertheless, I hope you know who fine girls are. Fine girls are girls who know their significance, who know they matter. They are girls who stand in a room full of sitting people, who own themselves, girls who are comfortable in their own body.
The fine girls are the girls who know that no man is worth wasting their time, they do not want to leash you, just as we like, and they are equals, classmates in this thing called ‘relationship’. They do not say “My Man” because they do not own us, do not nitpick about things as trivial as not calling them for days, the fine girls are self-governing, self-determining, and self-reliant, and we fear self-reliance.
They do not need us to define them, they are standalone, without us, they can exist perfectly; so we start to need them, because we need anchors, we start to fear that we would not survive without them.
They say “I love you” but coming from them it means “I love you but…” they have limits and stick to them, we love girls that scare us, girls we are afraid of losing. They sit on citadels of their own, fortresses they have built themselves, strongholds that do not waver.
The fine girls are self-girls, detached girls; girls who do not care if “edible catering” calls at 3am, they are the disinterested girls, the odd sort of beauty girls, “laugh at texts from other girls” girls and fine boys love self-girls.

The nurse t a nurse at University of Ghana Hospital, while haring some new photos from her wedding, wrote
“My inbox is constantly flooded with messages about weight issues and insecurities and how I inspire some of you. I’m beyond honoured to think my life is making some impact. You should never let negative thoughts about your size weigh you down or keep you from living your dream life.
If I had listened to nay sayers I would never be a nurse, I would never drive a car, I would probably go around wearing sack cloths with my head covered. I would never have opened a social media account and never posted any pictures online. Never let the petty minded busy bodies determine how you live your life. A life half lived should not be yours my lovely people.”

Mina Martins: Love is Not Supposed to Break You or Belittle You

 dreamstime_l_43705317

” You’re an adult now. You know the world’s an ambiguous place. You know that love doesn’t conquer all. It conquers some stuff. The other stuff kicks the living crap out of love.”
(Richard Webber: Greys Anatomy: Season 9. Ep. 09)
These words sound straightforward and simple until it becomes apparent that a lot of people are holding on to something broken simply because they are in love.

Honestly, I get it. A few years ago, I had that passionate, mind-numbingly extreme kind of love. Let’s call him M. When things were great, things were AMAZINGLY great. There was passion and love and lust. M and I had that great sexual chemistry you only see in movies and we had such connection that it literally felt that I could not live without him.

The problem was when things got bad. During those times, the fiery passion became burning rage. We lashed out during arguments. We said insulting, rude and downright degrading stuff to each other. We broke things and yelled until our voices gave out. I think we broke up and made up 30 times in the three years we were ‘together’.  It was that toxic and that unhealthy. But yeah, we got back together, because, love.
We thought this was what love was supposed to be like. We had watched the movies, followed the series, seen the music videos that depicted this passionate, crazy, intense kind of love and we thought we had that. We ignored the fact that with each fight, resentment built. With each make up session, we trusted each other a little less.

I remember one time, during one of our fights, M and I did the ‘break up’ thing. A couple of days after,  I called up an ex and went over to spend the night, out of spite, I guess. The next morning, I gave M a call, using this guy’s phone. M asked where I was and whose phone was it. I acted all coy, made sure he had the guy’s voice through the line and hung up.  The day after, M picked up some chick and did the same to me. Yes, we were that dysfunctional. And yes, we did make up. Again, because, love.

After a couple of years with him, I started to think about forever and I had a rethink of what I want. Would I want this man for a husband? Would I want him to be the father of my child? Would I want my kids to grow up witnessing mummy and daddy throwing things and lashing out every Tuesday? Is this what love is? Angry? Rude? Verbally abusive? Unfaithful? Distrustful? Jealous? Unsure?
I did eventually break up with M. And the relationship between myself and the man I married today is far different from what M and I had.

Sure, there were no sparks when we kissed, clouds did not part when we made love, chemistry was great, but not so intense that I lose my breath, but we had mutual respect. We loved each other a great deal and we will do anything for each other. Our fights are calm and our heated words still had kindness underneath them.
We had something bigger than love, and I eventually learned that those other things are what will keep you together for the long haul.

Love is not supposed to break you or belittle you. Searching for the love of your life is not as simple as looking out for butterflies in your tummy and sexual chemistry. It not simply about finding a partner for yourself, it is about finding someone willing to build a life with you and raise your children. You are giving a whole lot up when you blend your life with someone else, you have to make sure you are getting so much more in return. You should have things in common. There should be friendship, fun, laughter, kindness and respect. There should also be understanding, tolerance and patience. All these last so much longer than the butterflies and the candle-lit dinners. Your sexual aftermath conversations should be deeper than the actual sex connection. Because 30, 40, 50 years from now, when the butterflies are dead and the sexual longing is gone, you want to still be excited by your partner for the other stuff. The real stuff.

Sure, passionate movie love is great, but when you are talking forever, a tame fire that shines a little brighter every once in a while, is so much stronger than an out-of-control fire that can get you both burned and destroy all that you are.
I will leave this quote from below;
Olivia: I don’t want normal, and easy, and simple. I want..
Edison: What? What do you want, Olivia?
Olivia: I want painful, difficult, devastating, life-changing, extraordinary love. Don’t you want that, too?
Edison: Love is not supposed to be painful or devastating. Love isn’t supposed to hurt, Liv.
(Scandal. Season 2, Ep 13)
Honestly, I agree with Edison, but that’s just me.

Read What Toke Makinwa Singer has to say about cheating cycle

Media personality, Toke Makinwa covers the latest edition of Glam Africa Magazine. In it she talks about having a member of the opposite sex as a best friend and second chances.

According to her, having a member of the opposite sex as a best friend can’t work as feelings would start to creep in at some point.

The OAP who recently filed for divorce from her husband, Maje Ayida after he got his mistress pregnant, believes that a couple can come back from infidelity if they are both willing to work on it.

She said, "Matters of the heart are tough, incredibly tough. Cheating is bad; it is a cancer that eats you up; it destroys everything. You see a confident woman become a shadow of herself when she has been cheated on. It is one of the most painful things, ever and though some people make it work, it definitely cannot be the same again. It is like a broken mirror, the cracks will always be there but in time, the scar can become beautiful and a place only of reference, not a destination.
People can come back from it. If both parties are willing and if the cheat understands what his or her actions cost their partner. And of course, with the grace of God, watching another person suffer for the choice you selfishly made is so heart breaking – that is what cheating does. People grow up, people change [and] everyone deserves a second chance as we ask God for forgiveness daily, but it may not be with each other. Sometimes the brokenness is irreparable and you can forgive someone without being in their lives."
Maje Ayida & Toke Makinwa
Toke and her estranged hubby dated on and off for about 12 years and got married officially in a secret ceremony in December, 2013.

Nollywood Actress Patience Ozokwo Claims She Has Given Her Life To Christ,

mama G
Nollywood actress, Patience Ozokwo popularly known has Mama G has confirmed that she has indeed given her life to Christ, and the roles she would play henceforth must portrait that. In a chat with Saturday Beats, the actress talks about how she manages her new Faith….
“I did not just give my life to Christ. I have been a Christian all my life. The problem was that there were some compromises God wanted me to remove from my life. He wants me to be the face of Christianity so that when anyone sees me, they will know that I am a child of God.

The world has mingled with the church a lot and there is no difference between the world and the church. The way the worldly people dress is the way Christians are dressing nowadays. God told me he does not want his people to dress in that manner anymore. The men would plait their hair and use earrings, all these things are making God angry and even the women should be modest according to the way it is written in the Bible.

People should be known to be Christians through the way they dress, talk and approach life situations. You cannot call yourself a Christian and you drink alcohol. God does not want all that. I did not just repent now, I have been a born again Christian all these years, it is just that everybody has gone astray and we are now like unbelievers. That is what God said.

“It is not true that I said I do not want to be referred to as Mama G. I did not say so. It is the people that want to sell their papers that told that lie. God did not say I should retire from my work; after all, we act dramas in church. He did not tell me to stop acting and he did not tell me to stop bearing Mama G. Mama G is not a bad name, there are people who have bad names and he said they should drop them. Mine is not bad. The meaning of Mama means mother and the G stands for General. I am everybody’s mother. Even the scripture says that I am a mother to everybody, even the motherless children. I am just lucky because everything is falling into place.

My name is not bad. The world should know that Mama G is still Mama G; I am still Mama General and in other parts of Africa, they call me Mama Africa. How can I deny my fans of that? God did not ask me to quit my job, neither did he say I should renounce the name Mama G because there is nothing wrong with the name. However, if he asks me to stop bearing the name, I will throw it away because it is all about what he wants and not what any man wants.”
Mama G added that her faith will not affect her movie roles. She seized the opportunity to clear the air that her children have no problem with her faith. She said that they are happy for her and she is best of friend with her children.

She said, “My faith would not affect my career or movie roles. The movie I am about to shoot is an action movie. I am using it to expose some ills in the society. There are some obscene scenes that I cannot take part in because I am a child of God. If you watch my films, you will know that I have never shot any movie that is obscene. I tell my stories but you will never see me naked. Even when I try to portray some n**e scenes, I do it moderately.
