Video: TuFace backs out as he cancels the already planned protest

Popular music star, Innocent Idibia a.k.a 2face, has backed out of the planned nationwide protest, announcing its cancellation 24 hours to the return and resumption of office by President Muhammadu Buhari. The African Queen crooner announced the cancellation of the protest via his Instagram page, Official2baba Saturday evening. In the video clip, 2face said, “Dear Nigerians, after due consultations, it has become clear that the #OneVoice Nigerian protest scheduled to hold in Lagos and Abuja on Monday the 6th of February is under serious threat of hijack by interests not aligned with our ideals. The point and intent am making is not worth the life of any Nigerian.” “It is a fact motivated by the need to demand a better deal for the ordinary Nigerian.” “I therefore announce the cancellation of the planned protest. We will share further information in due course… I appreciate the massive support and I am convinced that our voices have been heard. “May God bless you all and may God bless Nigeria,” 2face concluded.

Recall that 2face had, a few weeks ago, called on Nigerians to join him in a nationwide protest against what he described as the  unfavourable policies implemented by President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration which have brought the Nigerian economy to its knees.  The protest which was initially slated to hold on the 5th of February 2017 was later shifted to Tomorrow 6th so that it would coincide with the resumption day of President Buhari who has been on a 10-day working leave in London.

Specifically, the Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina had,  while playing host in an interview with Lagos Talk 91.3fm, described the planned protest as coming from disgruntled people still living under the defeat mode of the 2015 election. He had said thus:“This is a country of about 180 million people. It is impossible for 180 million people to think the same way. Yoruba has a saying that if you all sleep and put your head in the same direction, then you are all foolish because you would be breathing in one another’s mouth and lungs.” “Don’t forget the last election and how it went. Somebody scored 12.5 million votes, another scored about 15 million votes. There are some people who are still in that election mode. They have not gotten out of it and till today, they are still living and ‘rheumatisizing’ about the past.” “What they don’t know is that that past is gone and gone forever. Majority of those calling for the protest are still in election mode. Majority of them are people that have resolved not to see anything good in this administration simply because the man they wanted lost at the polls.” Similarly, Buhari’s spokesperson on electronic media, Mrs. Lauretta Onochie had also called the African Queen crooner to come to a national TV and explain his “beef” with Buhari instead of going on national newspapers. According to her, “Nigerians would like 2Baba to explain the policies that he’s not happy with on National LIVE TV, as well as proffer alternative economic policies that would better serve all Nigerians. Not on newspapers that could have been written by anyone.” “That way, Nigerians will know it’s entirely his idea, that he understands what he’s doing, and acting in the interest of all Nigerians. Otherwise, we might assume that the protest is for those who miss the heist that happened under You know who. Nigerians are waiting. Thank you Sir,” she had said. In support of the two above, the Lagos state police commissioner, Owoseni had threatened to stop or even arrest the crooner on the pretext that the force had gotten an intelligence report that some hoodlums equally planned on hijacking the protest to cause mayhem.” He had said: “Information reaching us revealed that some hoodlums are planning to hijack the peaceful protest and at such, we won’t allow it to hold in Lagos.” He said: “Information reaching us revealed that some hoodlums are planning to hijack the peaceful protest and at such, we won’t allow it to hold in Lagos.” “We know that Tuface does not have the capacity to contain such a crowd and we will not fold our hands and watch while things go out of hand,” Owoseni said. According to him, “no matter how good an intention is, hoodlums would always find a way to harass, rob and attack innocent members of the public who may wish to go about their lawful duties.” However, despite the threat, the pop artiste had vowed to go ahead with the peaceful protest especially as many stakeholders had equally voiced support for the protest. Fayose, Adegboruwa, Ex-millitants react Reacting to Voicing his support for the protest and condemning the Lagos state Commissioner’s threat, the Ekiti state Governor, Ayodele Fayose had reminded Mr. Owoseni that “the duty of the police to secure Nigerians is mandatory, not optional. Therefore, if there is any intelligence report suggesting the possibility of criminals hijacking the process, it is the duty of the police to provide security cover for the protesters.” Fayos had voiced his support for the planned protest by saying,  “Like I said before, I support the protest.” “Nigerians are hungry and angry, our currency is now above N500 to $1. If Nigerians want to show their anger, no one should prevent them. Nepotism, extra judicial killings, disobedience to court order and human rights abuses must stop.” “The conscience is an open wound and the guilty is afraid. If the APC-led Federal Government is now acting as if the protest is against it, it means the federal government has accepted to be guilty as charged.” “Most importantly, the protest is said to be for and about good governance. So who is afraid of the protest? Who does the police represent or is representing in this issue?” Reacting also, a lawyer and human rights activist, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa had equally voiced support for the protest saying, “this is not a rally by miscreants or thugs as to warrant the fears being expressed by the police commissioner. The statutory duty of the police is to offer us protection on Monday and help to maintain orderliness, throughout the period of the rally. So come rain or shine, we shall hold the rally on Monday.” Similarly, the Niger Delta ex militants had also vowed to participate in the protest saying, “we the Niger Delta ex-agitators are fully in support of the 2face Idibia-led nationwide mass protest against economic hardship and severe hunger in the country. The federal government seemed to have no immediate measures to cushion plights of the suffering masses and we are ready for the protest.” But Saturday’s volte face by the pop star was a thunderbolt to many, especially those who had been warming up to partake in the planned protest.  While some saw an angle of inducement from the APC-led federal government, others saw a case of outright “chickening-out.” Some, who have commented their dissappointments in 2face’s u-turn in the comment section of the published video, despite his reasons for cancelling the protest, said he would never be regarded highly again in Nigeria for agitating their minds only to back out just hours before the show. For instance, a commenter, WisdomWisdom1 said thus: ”how much were you paid to cancel? I know this is just game and drama to some back door round table discussions to name your price, get paid and come out with this fairy tale excuses of security…o boy!! you cant fool me.. I know the game and you played it well, using the masses. so when are you jetting out to Dubai or uk to offload the account?” Another, @Jyde1305 said, “WTF!?! You get people fired up to protest and then you chicken out!!!” “This must be d stunt of ds millennium The guy knew, ab initio. He just put to test, d level of gullibility of Nigerians.” GANI said,  “How did we take an Agatu man seriously in the first place? A “social crusader” shelves rally against hunger and failure of government in the “interests of masses.” The danger of hunger, herdsmen, inflation confronting the common man on a daily, hourly and real-time basis does not comparable to the danger of rally for liberation. I think I should just apologize to Blackface.” And yet another person, Uchebravo said, “Na wa is terrible or is there anything discussed at the back. Why will u start what u know u can’t finish. God is watching. One day God will surely raise somebody that will champion the course of the lowly. No thanks.” But the comments are not all against 2face as others saw reasons with him. For instance, SylvesterDaniel wrote, “I know he made the announcement under duress. We will keep protesting here online until the world hear our voice. shame on Nigerian police. I am disappointed in Nigerian police. they are simply tools of mass suppression in the hand of cabal politicians.” And more Nigerians are still stating their views on the cancellation of the protest by 2face.

National Youth Council of Nigeria sets to mobilize 15,000 youths to welcome President Buhari from vacation

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), says it has mobilised about 15,000 youths to welcome President Buhari at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, from vacation. President Buhari is expected to return to Nigeria on February 6, following a 10-day vacation in London. Malam Gambo Jagindi, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President of NYCN, Murtala Gamji, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday in Abuja. Jagindi call on Nigerian youths, who are the future leaders of the country to show love, solidarity and support for the President.

“The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has concluded arrangements to mobilise not less than 15,000 of its members to be at Abuja airport on Feb. 6, to welcome President Buhari from vacation.
“It is on record that integrity, discipline and honesty are gradually returning to our public life unlike in the past when impunity was the order of the day. We all know that they do not have the interest of our country at heart and are only wishing to carry on with the looting of our treasury in the absence of our president."
While commending the president’s efforts to rid the country of undesirable elements who did not mean well for Nigeria and Nigerians, Jagindi urged Buhari to continue with the good work as the youths of Nigeria were solidly behind him. He noted that in spite of the “corrupt mafias’’ working to undermine the anti-corruption war, Nigerian youths under NYCN would continue to support Buhari’s laudable programmes.

Hausa trader allegedly kills Yoruba driver over N30 in Lagos

- A tribal riot started in Igando, Lagos, after a Hausa man allegedly killed a Yoruba driver
- The duo reportedly fought over N30 ($0.06, black market rate) which led to the death of the driver
- Friends of the deceased took to the street and attacked every Hausa man they could find
Riot started on Monday, January 31, on Mojeed street, Igando Lagos, when a 40-year-old Hausa trader, Ibrahim Adamu, allegedly killed a bus driver, Lekan Adeleke.
Residents and family of the deceased reportedly blocked the street, made bon fire and chased Hausa traders out of the area.
According to a report by ThePunch, trouble started when the deceased had bought noodles worth N230 from the suspect’s son on Sunday, January 29, around 10.30pm.

Hausa trader allegedly kills Yoruba driver over N30 in Lagos

He was reported to have paid N200 and promised to pay the balance of N30 the following day, which did not go down well with the suspect’s son.
The son allegedly reported to his father, Adamu, who became angry and attacked the 30-year-old Adeleke with a spiked plank.
The victim reportedly slumped and hit his head against the concrete edge of a gutter in the area.
A friend of the victim, Kehinde Akinduro, said Adamu had a kiosk where he sold confectioneries, while the son sold noodles beside the kiosk.

He explained that Adeleke had actually paid the balance of N30 to the suspect’s son.
He said: “He was joking with the boy that despite being a customer, he went and reported him to his father. They started abusing each other. At this time, the son was already preparing noodles for me on the instruction of Adeleke.
“The next thing I saw was that Adamu, who was eavesdropping, brought out a spiked plank and hit Adeleke with it. I cautioned him, but he faced me and hit me in the leg. I sustained some injuries.
“When Adeleke saw that he could no longer handle the situation, he took to his heels. But the man followed him and hit him in the head as he tried to jump the gutter. He fell and hit his head against the edge of the gutter.
“When Adamu saw that he had become unconscious, he took him into his kiosk and poured water on his head. He was doing this when a large number of residents stormed the place. When he sighted them, he abandoned the man and took to his heels.”
He said the suspect, speaking in Hausa, asked his son to flee in another direction.
“The boy escaped, but we were able to get Adamu. We called the police and handed him over to them.”
The mob was said to have destroyed Adamu’s kiosk and set it on fire after Adeleke died around 12am on Monday.

The police public relations officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said investigations were ongoing.
She said: “It was a case of murder. One Adamu used a plank to hit a bus driver, Adeleke, in the head which led to his death. The corpse was deposited in the Mainland General Hospital morgue for autopsy."

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has explained how it intercepted and seized a massive weapons haul of 661 brand new pump-action rifles in Lagos state.
In a press statement delivered by the Comptroller-General of NCS Hameed Ali at a briefing in Lagos on Monday, January 30, the outfit said the guns were intercepted on Sunday, January 22.
The statement read: "On Sunday 22nd January 2017, the Roving Team of the NCS Federal Operations Unit while on information patrol intercepted a Mack truck with registration number BDG 265 XG conveying a 1x40ft Container with Number: PONU/825914/3along Mile 2 Apapa road."

Nigerian Man Thanks His star after tying The knot with an elderly white woman

A man from Ondo State got married to an elderly white woman at the Federal Marriage Registry, Ikoyi, Lagos on Saturday January 21, 2017.
According to Chris Ayo Joseph, Editor-in-Chief of Redsheet Magazine, the man has two children unknown to the new wife because, Chris allegedly overheard two kids calling him "Daddy..Daddy", and the man replied in Yoruba: "E ma pe mi ni daddy mo, se e ti gbo". (Don't call me daddy, hope you've heard).Read his account below:
"Ba mi dupe luwo oluwa ooo.. Mo ti fe oyinbo, jesu seun" (Help me thank God, I've married a white).
Those were the words of this young man while receiving a phone call, just after tying the knot with this white woman at the Ikoyi registry earlier today.
Apparently, I was meant to understand that such thing happens almost everyday at the registry. Young Nigerian men come in with different foreign "oldie mama youngie's", all for the Paper's and the Chedda. It's more a like trend!
Obviously, the desire to get a “by-fire-by-force green card” has really blinded alot of Nigerian men or how else does one explain why a 32 year old man would bring home a foreign grandmother for marriage without the elderly in his family berating him.
Honestly, I thought the Yoruba has got culture. What has happened? Because the man in question is a Yoruba man, from Ondo State precisely. 😩
As a matter of fact, i was also rightly informed that the young man is married with two kids. Guess, his wife travelled or something, but his kids were present at the court wedding. And from where I sat, I overheard the kids calling him "Daddy..Daddy", and the man replied in Yoruba disgruntledly " E ma pe mi ni daddy mo, se e ti gbo". (Don't call me daddy, hope you've heard). At that point, i knew something funny was going on.
But then, on a more serious note. Have things become that bad that Nigerian men have to be deceitful?😕 Truly, wisdom is profitable to direct!!

The effort to Recount votes of US 2016 Presidential Election came to an end

There were allegations of hacking of the U.S. voting system, which were fuelled after Democratic Hillary Clinton, projected to win the election, polled over 2.5 million votes ahead of President-elect Donald Trump but lost the presidency to him on electoral college.

The recount efforts spearheaded by Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein came to a close on Monday, with little evidence that they changed the overall outcome.
Stein initially filed for recounts in three states where the final margin for President-elect Donald Trump was narrow: Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.
In Wisconsin, the recount ended on Monday; officials said Friday that the recount was 95 per cent complete, and that it had yielded a net gain of 25 votes for Clinton.
In Pennsylvania, however, a federal judge ruled on Monday against Stein’s request for a review of the voting systems, saying it was possible they had been hacked and compromised.
In his decision, federal judge Paul Diamondsaid Stein’s allegation of possible election tampering “borders on the irrational.”
Diamond also cited the delay between Election Day and Stein’s decision to file the lawsuit, and said Stein did not have standing to sue on the issue.
“Granting her later than last minute request for relief, however, could well ensure that no Pennsylvania vote counts. Such a result would be both outrageous and completely unnecessary; as I have found, suspicion of a ‘hacked’ Pennsylvania election borders on the irrational.”
Stein could appeal the decision, but time is short as all states must certify their election results by Tuesday, December 13, so it is unlikely any new action could be taken before then.
In Michigan, the third state on Stein’s list, the recount process ended last week after a judge lifted an order forcing the state-wide review of ballots.
The recount lasted three days, and examined ballots in 20 of the state’s 83 counties.
Stein first began raising money for a possible recount in late November, and quickly began bringing in millions of dollars for the effort.
Stein’s effort has raised more than $7.3 million in crowd-funding, according to her fundraising page.
There were allegations of hacking of the U.S. voting system, which were fuelled after Democratic Hillary Clinton, projected to win the election, polled over 2.5 million votes ahead of President-elect Donald Trump but lost the presidency to him on electoral college.
President Barack Obama has directed security agencies to commence fresh investigation into the alleged hacking, which should be concluded before the end of his tenure.

WhatsApp, Viber, others adversely affecting our business in Nigeria – MTN

Africa's biggest telecom firm, MTN, has said the exercises of 'over-the-top' organizations like WhatsApp effectsly affect the maintainability of Nigeria's broadcast communications industry.

The organization's Chief Executive Officer, Ferdinand Moolman, said this while making a presentation at a listening to met by Senate Committee on Communications on Tuesday.

The listening to led by Adeola Olamilekan, bad habit administrator of the board of trustees, was sorted out after the now suspended information tax climb by the Nigerian Communications Commission.

A week ago, NCC had guided the significant media communications organizations to build information cost with a specific end goal to permit "new participants" procure piece of the overall industry and work beneficially. The approach was later suspended after open clamor.

The Senate likewise requested that the administrative organization end the strategy.

At the Tuesday's listening ability, Mr. Moolman, highlighted elements affecting Nigeria's broadcast communications industry.

Among these variables, Mr. Moolman specified "the consumption of administrator incomes by unlicensed suppliers of "over-the-top" telecoms administrations who don't have any physical nearness; nor pay any expenses; nor make any noteworthy commitment to business or other financial targets of government in Nigeria."

Specifying WhatsApp, Viber and so forth., he said these organizations were disintegrating additions of Nigeria's telecom organizations and requested that Nigeria make a move like the United Arab Emirates did.

He likewise mourned the failure of administrators to get to outside trade.

"This is especially weakening given that the greater part of our information sources are sourced seaward. This has altogether expanded both working and capital costs."

Likewise, talking at the listening to, NCC's supervisor, Umar Dambatta, said the move by the NCC a week ago was to guarantee rivalry.

Mr. Dambatta said real telecom firms offering information easily would later raise the cost in the wake of pushing contenders (new contestants) out of market.

Interchanges Minister, Adebayo Shittu, told the listening to he was not counseled by the NCC before issuing the mandate.

Another significant telecom firm, Globacom, notwithstanding, said floor estimating ought to be left to market drives and not to the controller

GSM subscribers to pay more for data from Dec.1

Subscribers of the Global System of Mobile telecommunications across the country would pay more for data with effect from December 1, 2016, The PUNCH learnt on Monday.
Although the telecoms companies declined to speak on the matter, top management workers across the networks confirmed the story to our correspondent, saying that the directive was from the Nigerian Communications Commission.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a senior management employee of Etisalat Nigeria said, “The NCC issued the directive late last week on the orders of the Federal Government. We have not announced it yet because most of the major telcos have been meeting the NCC on how to reverse this policy, because it will be too harsh for Nigerians.
“However, we further gathered that the Federal Government took the decision having discovered that data rates are very low-priced in Nigeria, compared to other countries, including nearby African countries.

“The government might have also taken the decision given that Nigerian subscribers have been kicking against the proposed nine per cent Communication Tax, whose bill is currently in the National Assembly.”
Pleading not to be mentioned, an employee of MTN said, “What this means is that MTN, Airtel, Etisalat And Globacom will increase their data rates as from December 1, 2016. A data plan of N1,000 for 1.5 Gigabytes will now be increased to N3,000 at N1,000 per 500 Megabytes.”
In text messages sent out to its subscribers, MTN, Africa’s mobile telecommunications giant, confirmed that it had agreed to implement the directive of the NCC.
The MTN text read, “Dear customer, please be informed that from 1st of December, some MTN data tariffs will be increased to reflect the new rates set by the NCC for operators. Thank you.”
The PUNCH could not obtain an official response from the NCC at of the time of filing this report.
However, a representative of the commission said that the telecoms regulator was unaware of such plans by the operators, even as she said her bosses had claimed ignorance of the circulated message.
“We are unaware of it. I just asked my bosses; they are unaware. We will forward your query to MTN for appropriate attention,” she said over the telephone.
However, in a letter by the NCC to the operators sighted by our correspondent, the commission stated, “This rate will subsist pending the finalisation of the study on the determination of cost-based pricing for retail broadband and data services in Nigeria.
“In order to provide a level playing field for all operators in the industry, small operators and new entrants to acquire market share and operate profitably, small operators and new entrants are hereby exempted from the price floor for data services.”
It added, “For the avoidance of doubt a small operator is one that has less than 7.5 per cent market share and a new entrant is an operator that has operated less than three years in the market.
“All operators are to ensure that subscribers are not automatically migrated to pay-as-you-go platform.
“Also, note that effective date for the interim price floor is December 1, 2016.”
Reacting to the development, the President, National Association of Telecommunications Subscribers, Mr. Adeolu Ogunbanjo, said that the NCC representative was being economical with the truth.
He said that for MTN to have sent out millions of text messages to its subscribers “clearly shows that the NCC indeed issued the directive.”
Ogunbanjo, however, said that the association would resist the tariff hike, adding, “We will challenge it in court. We are going right away to set the machinery in motion. We are also going to do an urgent letter to the NCC Executive Vice Chairman, Prof. Umar Danbatta, which we will drop in his e-mail box.
“Unfortunately, the notice is short; today is November 28, yet the order will take effect from December 1. It is not just good for broadband penetration, whatever the reason may be. It is against telecoms subscribers.”
According to him, data availability means more youth engagement because they use data to develop apps and build software.
“But with what the NCC has done, these boys who develop apps will be slowed down and limited. The cost of doing business will also increase,” he added.

A relative of the victim, Mr. Ibrahim Olugbon, said, “The police must investigate and punish the culprit to serve as a deterrent to others.” It was gathered that Bukola, who had been admitted to Adedayo Clinic and Maternity on Ibrahim Taiwo Road, Ilorin, was shot on the premises of a bank.

Top: Computer Scientists want Recount of Votes in Three States for Hillary Clinton

 Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton‘s campaign is being urged by a number of top computer scientists to call for a recount of vote totals in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania, CNN reports.

The scientists believe that voting machines in the three states – which Donald Trump won – may have been manipulated or hacked. They presented their case in a conference call with Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta and campaign general counsel Marc Elias last Thursday, November 17.

If the results in those states flipped to the Democratic nominee, she would have collected 278 electoral votes — 18 more than Trump and enough to secure the presidency.

The group includes  J. Alex Halderman, the director of the University of Michigan Center for Computer Security and Society.

Voting-rights attorney John Bonifaz was also in the conference call.
According to source, the scientists said that Clinton performed poorly – 7% fewer votes – in counties that used electronic voting compared to paper ballots.

They said that while they had not found any evidence of hacking, the pattern needs to be looked at by an independent review.

With N1,000 You Can Now Open a Zenith Bank Account

600x600-guy-purse

Since its inception in 1990, Zenith Bank has strategically positioned itself as the bank for the corporate  giants of industry, the affluent upper middle class, the high networth individuals and the so-called ‘one percent.‘ These fortunate customers have enjoyed the very finest banking services available in Nigeria for nearly three decades. This exclusivity of the bank’s clientele made it perhaps the most aspirational brand in the country, as many young people set life goals that included being able to own an account in Zenith Bank. This was no mean feat to achieve, seeing as it cost at least N250,000 to open any account in the bank.
Until now.

Zenith Bank has recently refocused operations on the retail segment of the banking sector, meaning that the bank’s superlative services are now available to everyone. That almost insurmountable barrier to entry, N250,000, has been reduced to an infinitesimal N1,000.
Furthermore, the bank has made it super easy to open an account with them by introducing an account opening shortcode *966*0# which can be dialed from any phone to instantly open an account and receive your account number. You then need to visit any Zenith Bank branch within 7 days to activate your account.

N1000 to open an account at Zenith Bank?  No one would have thought it possible.

True Story Of The Man Lynched By Mob In Lagos

As the story of the man lynched by a mob in Lagos continues to dominate the front pages, various accounts of the story continue to emerge. Initial reports that the victim was a 7-year old boy were dismissed by the Nigerian Police and a lawyer who works with the Joint Action Aid has shared the details of the incident on Facebook.

Read his account below:
The true account of the young man lynched and summarily burnt to death at Orile Iganmu last Saturday speaks of the uncertainty and brevity of human life in Nigeria. It was Saturday, the 11th day of November 2016. The venue of this macabre killing orgy was at Augustine Onwualu Street, Orile Iganmu, Lagos.

A woman, (name withheld) was walking along the ever busy road of Augustine Onwualu street, Orile Iganmu. She had an Infinix Hotnote 2 handset with which she was making telephone calls in high pitched voice, frantically gesticulating in the process. Close by, on the same street were a gang of 4 notorious thieves, well known in the area for their dare devilry and viciousness. They were there, waiting, prowling and surveying the entire scenery for a vulnerable victim to rob and dispossessed of their valuables as they often do in the past. And successfully too.

“The woman approached. Still talking on the phone and gesticulating with her free arm. She was immediately spotted by the very perceptive eyes of this criminal gang. A brief conference amongst them, she was adjudged a soft target. There was no need for further plans or careful surveillance. After all they had done this successfully in the past. More so, their sheer ferocity makes them a sort of feared mobster in the local vicinity. But it turned out to be a miscalculation. And costly one at that!

“They approached and circled the woman who was oblivious of her surrounding and the imminent attack on her person. The robbery attack was swift and very decisive. She was held from behind by two members of the gang. One of them deftly pruned her hand bag off her shoulder and the same time attempted to retrieved the telephone with which she was making calls from her other arm. The last of the gang stood guard, providing cover for the others.

“They had during their planning stage misjudged the desperation of a Nigerian woman about to be dispossessed. The victim reacted swiftly. She let the hand free and held on tenaciously to her phone. A struggle ensued. The victim plaintively cried out for help. A motley crowd gathered. The other members of the gang, appropriately appraising the situation fled the scene. The fourth member was not so lucky. He continued to engage in an internecine struggle with victim for the phone. In desperation, he brought out a dagger, and cold blooded stabbed the woman repeatedly in the chest, stomach and shoulder. There is a proverb, when a strong animal flirts too much with the trap, he makes his meat available for children to share with teeth.

“The gathered crowd became enraged and promptly apprehended the abandoned thief. He was beaten to stupor, Tied up and set ablaze while the maddening crowd continued to bay for his blood.

“Joint Action Aid was alerted on Monday when video clips of the dastardly murder went viral on social media. We reported the yet another resort to “jungle justice” to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos state. The video clips were carefully analysed and some arrest made. The six people arrested through our efforts denied criminal culpability and brought fast talking lawyers.

“More frustrating, the charred remains of the alleged thief had been removed. The area council and Orile Iganmu police claimed ignorance of the whereabouts of the corpse. Thus we have a dead zone situation. No dead body, no witnesses and then, most understandably, an unwilling complainant still battling for survival from the grievous multiple stabbing at the hospital. We returned back to the office, again defeated. Frustrated. And defeated. The rule of law is vanquished again. The rule of the jungle continues to win triumphantly

Read: One Nigerian And Six U.S Citizens Sentenced to Prison Over Online Fraud

 Funso Hassan

Six U.S. citizens and a Nigerian national were on Tuesday, sentenced to federal prison for their roles in online fraud schemes that distributed more than $40 million in counterfeit checks using ‘mystery shopper’ websites and ‘work from home’ scams. The criminal enterprise was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
Funso Hassan, 27, an Oyo state indigene and Anthony Shane Jeffers, 44, of Maryville, Tennessee, were each sentenced to 10 years in prison. Ann Louise Franzen, 70, of Kiln, Mississippi; Gary Melvin Barnard, 64, of Palestine, Texas; Michele Gayle Fee, 55, of Stockton, California; Tanya Lynn Thomas, 52, of Turlock, California; and Shawn Ann White, 44, of Manteca, California, were each sentenced to five years in prison.

In addition to the prison sentences, U.S. District Judge Louis Guirola, Jr., of the Southern District of Mississippi sentenced each defendant to three years supervised release following completion of their sentences. Restitution to the victims for all defendants will be determined at a later date. The sentences are the maximum statutory penalty for the charges to which the defendants pleaded.

According to court documents, Hassan and Jeffers admitted in their April 12 guilty pleas to conspiracy to commit identity theft and theft of government property along with use of mail and interstate facility to distribute proceeds of a racketeering activity. Franzen, Barnard, Fee, Thomas and White previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit identity theft and theft of government property.
All seven defendants were members of a large-scale international financial fraud conspiracy that included romance scams through online dating sites, check fraud, secret shopper schemes and personal assistant work-from-home schemes.

Some of the defendants started as romance scam victims only later becoming knowing participants in the counterfeit check fraud. Victims were sent checks with mystery shopper and personal assistant instructions.
The checks, which were counterfeit, would bounce after the victims transmitted proceeds to various locations in the United States which were then layered for transmission to Nigeria. Victims then owed their banks the amount of checks and often hundreds of dollars in bank fees.

Read What Ali baba Have to Say About A Man That Name His Dog Buhari

Ali babaFollowing, the arrest, re-arrest and prosecution of a man, Joe Chinakwe, who named his dog “Buhari”, comedian, Ali Baba has shared a story about his dogs he named: OBJ (Obasanjo), Obama, Thatcher, Abacha, IBB (Babangida), Gaddafi, Clinton, Madiba (Nelson Mandela), among others.
According to Ali Baba, Obasanjo was aware that a dog was named after him, and even joked about it. He said that Obasanjo was impressed when he was told that there is a dog named after him in his (Ali Baba’s) house.
“But then again, OBJ had a different kind of personality and a high sense of humor. Everyone can not be the same. So I understand. And that is all I have to say,” Ali Baba said.
He share the photo above on Instagram and wrote:
My dogs and I back in the day. Must have had like 12 at a particular point in time. Interesting time. That time I mean. I had traveled and returned at night, but was too tired to relate with them. OBJ, the big Alsatian was the head of the pack. Then Obama was the big black and white Great Dane, the Alsatian on the bummer was Thatcher. Thatcher must have given me like 18 puppies… In her good days (X120k per puppy) the ridge back by Thatcher was called Madiba… It arrived from South Africa on the birthday of Mandela… The Second Harlequin Great Dane was named after Queen Amina… But the fiercest of my odds were Chaka, IBB AND Abacha. They took no prisoners. In fact, if I gave you anything I had used before, like shoes or clothes,my advice is not to wear them to my home. Because if Chaka, or Abacha caught a whiff of that item on you… You will not like yourself.
They were my trusted securities and my friend. One time in LEKKI, 1997 or so, a guy scaled the fence into my compound in the night. I was woken up to a shouts of “Oga come o!!!!!” “Oga I am finished!” And Usman my guard was having a good laugh. At 2am! The petty thief was on the roof of my V-Boot. I was more scared for his life than he was of it. Because then we had Chaka, Gaddafi and Clinton. Those who new these dogs will testify to their brutality. Go ask @basorge_tariah and @officialbunmidavies…
But with hindsight now, I am just thanking God. Yes oooo! I have to thank God ooo. That it was not now, that I named my dogs after any sitting president and foreign leaders. In fact, Obasanjo himself was very impressed years later when his friend that brought me a gift from Baba, told him how a dog called OBJ in Ali Baba’s house nearly killed him.
Baba used to warn my wife then, that if she ever decided to have a dog meal, she should not touch OBJ… But then again, OBJ had a different kind of personality and a high sense of humor. Everyone can not be the same. So I understand. And that is all I have to say.
Ali Baba, in his next post also called on the President to call the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) to order, adding that the Fulani herdsmen menace, and other issues bedevilling the country have not gotten such swift attention.Ali baba2
Meanwhile, Vanguard reports that Joe’s family, as at 3:30PM on Thursday had not yet perfected the bail conditions for his release from prison.
Family sources that spoke with Vanguard on phone, said they were able to raise only N20, 000, but could not complete the money.
A family source said they made passionate appeals to the authorities to accept what they had and release the trader. However, it was not clear if their appeals had been accepted but sources said the authorities were still profiling two of his guarantors as at 3.30pm yesterday.

Facebook User Shares how She was Allegedly Harassed by a Pastor during “Retreat”

Honey Phoenix PostA Facebook User Honey Phoenix Evarist has shared a story of how her pastor allegedly harassed her sexually at his home during a retreat.
According to her, she was 22 at the time and her mother had sent her to the pastor’s house to undergo deliverance because she “refused to act like a christian”.
She wrote:
In 2013 my mum told me I needed deliverance because I refused to act like a “christian” she took me to a pastor of Omega Fire Ministries (OFM) he said I will do a retreat with him for one month so i went back home to pack my stuff.
This man would always enter my room without knocking. His hands would linger around my breasts when he hugs me…I was uncomfortable but i tried to bring my “mind out of the gutter”.
We used to have night prayers and he would prolong the prayers till his heavily pregnant wife got tired and he’l encourage her to go to bed and rest…once she leaves he starts to tell me how much he loves me and how I don’t need deliverance because there is nothing wrong with me,and how i am a nice girl who her parents misunderstood.
I was not all that surprised and i tried to take advantage of the situation. I would miss prayers or evening service because i knew he wont do anything about it.
But then his wife started to notice that i had too much freedom.and what surprised me was that he did not seem to care…he would try to kiss me when his wife was just one room away…he would wink at me when her back was turned…he would hold my hand at the back seat of the car when we are returning from night vigil. He was like a lovestruck teenager.
I began to avoid him and it made him more desperate…one time he asked if i was avoiding him and I made him know i did not like what he was doing and he told me if i want his P.A could arrange for us to have a quiet time somewhere.
I had to tell the Assistant pastor all that was going on. I still recall the tears and the look of unbelief on his face that night. The assistant did nothing about it…but advised me to pack my stuff and leave before things get out of hand. But I couldn’t leave because the “retreat” was not over.
One night at the night vigil at OFM headquarters in Auchi i went to confide in a friend…and my father’s driver overhead everything and he told my dad once we returned to Abuja.
The sad part about it all was that my parents called the pastor and his wife to ask them…instead of me. And they heaped it all on me. They said i have been misbehaving because I am tired of the “retreat” and i sleep during prayers, I don’t go to the evening services and i have come up with accusations because i want to go.
The good thing was that I moved back home.
Till today I wonder what sort of brains the pastor’s wife had in her head.
While some of the commenters expressed sadness at the story, others blatantly refused to believe in what she said because “there are three sides to a story”.
One commenter said:
Why is it that most parent don’t believe their daughters whenever this kind of issue comes up. My mum’s tenant daughter was suffering serious sexual abuse from her aunt’s husband (her mother’s elder sister’s husband). The girl ran away from them & came to report to her mother but she didn’t believed, the man was still even coming to have sexual intercourse with the girl in her mother’s house whenever the mother is not in. He usually tell the girl never to inform anyone or else she will die. The girl was suffering in silence due to her mother’s non-challant attitude till the day I caught the man in the act. I gave him the most humiliating embarrassment of his life that day.

  • My cousin is encountering similar situation. This is a serious issue! A certain prayer warrior that her mum always bring to the house because the girl is “possessed” . It’s a very sad story. It hurts me everyday.
  • I came to check your page out, and honestly it’s obvious your parents were right, going through your photos you indeed needed a deliverance. How true your story is I can’t tell, but I have definitely seen more crazier folks than you are making up stories. So I dare not believe until we hear the side of the alleged pastor.
  • In as much as i try to believe your story…. I seriously can’t cos there’s always three sides of every story. Your story.. The pastor’s story and the real truth. My dear you just told us your own side of the story. We have to wait for the pastors side then the side of the real truth..  Sorry i doubt your story……
