We live in a generation that what matters is not matter while what that is not matter matters to people a lot. Non-challant attitude have occupied the mind space of people that make them ignore what matters in their lives while they sleeplessly pursue what does not really matter. One day, somebody came up to me and asked “If money and knowledge should be set before someone and the person is to pick one, which one is important to choose?” then I asked him what you will go for?
He answered that he will rather go for money instead of knowledge. So I inquired to know why he chose money for knowledge. Then he said, with money he can acquire all he desire both the knowledge and some other material things. So I asked what he’s doing presently. He is learning how to make foot wares which is very much interesting.
Obviously, majority today goes for what they want and ignored their needs because they believe their want will be sufficient enough to generate what could be their need which seems not to work that way. I have seen so many people with desperate desire to acquire and possess many things just because they want it but still they are yet to be satisfied with what they have.
Apparently, human wants can never be satisfied because it will keep increasing day by day. The desire to have money will be to have it more and more which will eventually lead to competition. For that boy, he wants money because of what he could do with it then forget how much money he can generate with knowledge.
Looking at the boy’s Boss, he wasn’t looking for money at first that was the reason why he chose knowledge of making shoes that is now generating more money than he could ever imagine. Assuming the boss went for the money in the first place; he would have finished up the money before today and will still want more.
Occasionally, what we want is what others have, and it’s what they flaunt so they can be noticed by other people. They show off what they have acquired so others can compete with them.
To understand the context of want and need, I checked my dictionary then I found out that their meanings are drastically different.
“Want is a desire for something or a wish to have something”. Relating this to the boy’s case, he wants money because of what he could do with it. In the society today, there are many people with so much money but they are unsatisfied and even unhappy. Not that money makes them unhappy but because what they have does not meet and provide their needs. Money will buy you luxurious and exotics things but cannot buy you peace, happiness, joy and rest of mind. With money you may marry a beautiful wife but you may not have happy home.
“Need is the necessary requirement for something”. Giving this meaning a close view, it gives an insight of what is necessary to possess or required to become who we are meant to be.
