Nollywood producer Chioma Okoye
is speaking out after she was allegedly beaten, detained unlawfully and
threatened recently over the storyline of her new drama series called “Lagos Men”.
According to reports from her lawyer,
the series is based on a true life story, however, an agreement was made
between a woman (Name withheld), on whose life the story is based, and
Chioma Okoye before production started.
The deal for the series was reportedly
made back in 2014 and now that the drama series has been released, the
affected lady has had a change of mind about publicly telling her story
especially in view of the other lives that will be affected.
The series “Lagos Men”
focuses on men, marital vows, secrets, scandals and more. According to
the producer, the aim of telling the story of the woman was to help give
her a voice and also to show what happens in the society with the hope
of changing it.
The Producer was allegedly physically abused two weeks ago on the 12th
of August, 2016 after her home was invaded by thugs allegedly sent by
the woman on whom the series was based. According to reports, the
services of the Police Inspector in Ajah Police Division were also
employed to force producer Chioma Okoye to take down the series and stop
further viewing. Chioma Okoye was also offered #3,000,000 to shut down
the movie.
Chioma’s lawyer states “It must be
clearly established that the film did not contravene any known law,
statute, rules of motion pictures, injurious to reputation, slanderous
or libelous. Rather it’s a story created to bring to life people’s rough
tides, calculated at superb imagination engagement and to promote good
societal values. We have taken steps to protect our client and
we shall further seek redress in the court of law on her behalf. They
should not conceive that the stupid chance they had on our client that
faithful morning, their intimidation, coercion, and threat might deprive
her of her rights and all this success, newly appreciated and newly
illumined by her fans and the general public.”
